The Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies pursuant to the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 13 of Schedule 4 to the Finance Act 1976 and to all other powers enabling him in that behalf hereby makes the following regulations:-
1. These regulations may be cited as the Friendly Societies (Life Assurance Premium Relief) (Amendment) Regulations 1984 and shall come into operation on 14th March 1984.
2. Nothing in regulation 3(1) of the Friendly Societies (Life Assurance Premium Relief) Regulations 1977(1) ("the 1977 Regulations") shall be taken to have authorised the adoption of any scheme to the extent that, by virtue of the scheme, payments due and payable under contracts made after 13th March 1984 would, apart from these Regulations, have been retained by or refunded to the persons paying them.
3. In consequence of regulation 2 above, the 1977 Regulations shall have effect with the following modifications-
(a)in regulation 3(2), after the words "payable under contracts" there shall be inserted the words "made before 14th March 1984"; and
(b)in Schedule 1 (the prescribed scheme) in paragraph 1 (contracts to which the scheme applies) after the word "contract" there shall be inserted the words "made before 14th March 1984".

These Regulations amend the Industrial Assurance (Life Assurance Premium Relief) Regulations 1977 so that, where an industrial assurance company or collecting society adopted the prescribed, or an approved, scheme under which life assurance premium relief to policyholders is effected by deductions from premiums, the scheme will not authorise such deductions in respect of policies or contracts made after 13th March 1984.
