NURSES, MIDWIVES AND HEALTH VISITORS

In exercise of the power conferred on me by section 24(2) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979, I hereby make the following order:-
1. This order may be cited as the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979 (Commencement No. 4) Order 1983 .
2. The day appointed for the coming into operation of any provision of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979 specified in the first column of the Schedule to this order which relates to the matter specified in the first in relation to that provision in the second column of that Schedule shall be 1st July 1983.

This Order brings into operation those remaining provisions of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979 for which no date has been appointed by previous commencement orders. The main provisions covered by the Order concern:-
(a) the functions of the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and the National Boards for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting ( sections 2 and 6) ;
(b) the dissolution of the existing nursing bodies (section 21) ;
(c) the professional register ( section 10) ;
(d) removal from the register ( section 12) ; and
(e) offences ( sections 14 and 17) .
Dates, including some after the date of this Order, have been appointed by commencement orders made before the date of this Order for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979:-
