The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 10(1) of the Civil Aviation Act 1980, and after consulting the British Airways Board and the Treasury, hereby makes the following Order:-
1. This Order may be cited as the Civil Aviation Act 1980 (Appointed Day) Order 1983.
2. The appointed day for the purposes of Part I of the Civil Aviation Act 1980 is 1st April 1984.

Section 3(1) of the Civil Aviation Act 1980 ("the 1980 Act") provides that, on a day appointed by the Secretary of State, all the property, rights, liabilities and obligations to which the British Airways Board was entitled or subject immediately before that day shall (subject to certain provisions of the 1980 Act) become by virtue of that section property, rights, liabilities and obligations of a company nominated for the purpose of the section by the Secretary of State. By virtue of the Civil Aviation Act 1980 (Nominated Company) Order 1983 (S.I. 1983/1939) the nominated company is British Airways Plc. Certain other provisions in Part I of the 1980 Act, and the repeals consequent on Part I, also take effect on the appointed day.
This Order provides that the appointed day for the purposes of Part I of the 1980 Act is 1st April 1984.
