The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, acting jointly in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 5 and 35(3) of the Agriculture Act 1957(1), and now vested in them and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following order:-
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Sheep Variable Premium (Protection of Payments) (Amendment) Order 1982 and shall come into operation on 24th May 1982.
(2) In this order "the principal order" means
2. The words "any part of" shall be inserted after the words "brought into" at the following places in the principal order:-
(a)in the shoulder note to Article 10;
(b)in the first line of Schedule 4;
(c)in the fourth line of Schedule 4.
3. The words "outside the United Kingdom" shall be deleted from the following places in the principal order:-
(a)in Article 10(1) after the words "from any place so specified";
(b)in the eighth line of Schedule 4 after the words "place or places".

This Order amends the Sheep Variable Premium (Protection of Payments) (No. 2) Order 1980 by extending the power of the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce to require the marking of animals brought into the United Kingdom to include animals brought into one part of the United Kingdom from another.
The amendment will enable the Board to provide for the marking of animals brought into Great Britain from Northern Ireland, required by Article 2(2) of Commission Regulation (EEC) No. 2661/80, (which lays down detailed rules for applying the variable slaughter premium for sheep) as amended by Article 1(2) of Commission Regulation (EEC) No. 1238/82.
section 5 is applied to Community arrangements by section 6(3) and (4) of the European Communities Act 1972 (c.68) and is to be read with the Transfer of Functions (Wales) (No. 1) Order 1978 (S.I. 1978/272).
