The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 31(3) of the Petroleum and Submarine Pipe-lines Act 1975 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consulting such organisations in the United Kingdom as he considered were representative of persons who will be affected, hereby makes the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Submarine Pipe-lines (Electricity Generating Stations) Regulations 1981 and shall come into operation on 1st July 1981.
2. Sections 20(1) (Control of construction and use of pipe-lines in territorial and continental shelf waters), 22 (compulsory increases in capacity etc. of pipe-lines) and 23 (acquisition by persons of rights to use pipe-lines belonging to others) of the Petroleum and Submarine Pipe-lines Act 1975 shall not apply to any pipe-line-
(a)for the conveyance of water to or from an electricity generating station; or
(b)for the conveyance of dissolved chlorine to any pipe-line conveying water to an electricity generating station.

These Regulations exclude from the scope of specified provisions of the Petroleum and Submarine Pipe-lines Act 1975 pipe-lines for the conveyance of water to and from electricity generating stations, together with ancillary pipe-lines for the purpose of chlorinating the water.
