The Minister for the Civil Service, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 5(2) and (4) of the Pensions (Increase) Act 1971 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Pensions Increase (Police Compensation) Regulations 1974, and shall come into operation on 29th August 1974.
2. The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of these Regulations as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
3. These Regulations shall apply to a pension payable by a police authority-
(a)under regulations made in pursuance of section 259 of the Local Government Act 1972 (compensation for loss of office attributable to local government reorganisation),
or
(b)under regulations made in pursuance of section 260 of the said Act of 1972 (provision for early retirement in lieu of such compensation):
4. The Pensions (Increase) Act 1971 shall have effect in relation to a pension to which these Regulations apply as if such a pension were specified in Part II of Schedule 2 to that Act.
5. Any increase of pension payable by virtue of these Regulations shall have effect in respect of any period beginning on or after 25th December 1973.

1. These Regulations provide for the payment of increases under the Pensions (Increase) Act 1971 on certain pensions payable by police authorities, in pursuance of the Local Government Act 1972, to or in respect of persons affected by local government reorganisation.
2. Under the powers in section 5(4) of the 1971 Act the Regulations provide for the increase of pension to take effect from 25th December 1973.
