The Secretary of State, in exercise of his powers under section 55 of the Civil Aviation Act 1949 as amended by paragraph 2 of Schedule 10 to the Civil Aviation Act 1971 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf hereby makes the following Regulations.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Civil Aviation (Births, Deaths and Missing Persons) (Amendment) Regulations 1972 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1972.
2. The Interpretation Act 1889 applies for the purpose of these Regulations as it applies for the purpose of the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
3. The Civil Aviation (Births, Deaths and Missing Persons) Regulations 1948(1) are hereby amended as follows:
(1) In Regulation 2:
(a)there shall be inserted the following:
"(1A) "the Authority" means
(b)the definition of "Minister" shall be deleted:
(2) For the words "the Minister" wherever they occur there shall be substituted the words "the Authority" and for "he" and "him" wherever those expressions refer to the Minister, there shall be substituted "it";
(3) For the words "aircraft registered in Great Britain and Northern Ireland" wherever they occur there shall be substituted the words "aircraft registered in the United Kingdom".
(4) In Regulations 5 and 6 the words "in his Department" shall be deleted and in Regulation 9(1) for the words "in his Department" there shall be substituted the words "pursuant to these Regulations";
(5) In Appendices A and B for the words "Section 43 of the Civil Aviation Act 1946" there shall be substituted the words "section 55 of the Civil Aviation Act 1949";

In addition to some minor and drafting amendments these Regulations amend the Civil Aviation (Births, Deaths and Missing Persons) Regulations 1948 by substituting the Civil Aviation Authority for the Minister of Civil Aviation.
