The Minister for the Civil Service, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3(3) and 9(2) of the Governors' Pensions Act 1957 and section 4(7) of the Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1967, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:-
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Governors' Pensions (Maximum Amounts) Order 1972.
(2) This Order shall come into operation on 22nd March 1972. and shall have effect from 18th February 1972.
2.-(1) In this Order "the Act" means
(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
3. The sum of £7725·21 is hereby specified for the purposes of section 3 of the Act (maximum amount of a Governor's pension).
4. The sum of £11587·81 is hereby specified for the purposes of section 9 of the Act (maximum amount of the gratuity payable in respect of a Governor's death).
5. The Governor's Pensions (Maximum Amounts) Order 1969(1) is hereby revoked.

This Order, which replaces the Governor's Pensions (Maximum Amounts) Order 1969, increases the maximum amount of a Governor's pension from £5,733·33 to £7,725·21 and of a gratuity payable in respect of a Governor dying in office from £8,600 to £11,587·81.
Under the power conferred by section 4(7) of the Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1967, the Order has effect from the 18th February 1972.
