The Secretary of State for Social Services, with the consent of the Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 3, 4 and 7 of the Pensions (Navy, Army, Air Force and Mercantile Marine) Act 1939, as amended by the Pensions (Mercantile Marine) Act 1942, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Scheme:-

This Scheme amends the War Pensions (Mercantile Marine) Scheme 1964 so as to remove a restriction under which no award could be made in respect of the death of a member of the Merchant Navy, occurring more than 7 years after the date of the relevant qualifying injury or end of detention, unless he had been in receipt of a pension in respect of disablement.
