The Minister of Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 35 of the National Assistance Act 1948, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following regulations:-
1. These regulations may be cited as the National Assistance (Professions Supplementary to Medicine) (Amendment) Regulations 1968, and shall come into operation on 1st May 1968.
2. The Interpretation Act 1889 applies to the interpretation of these regulations as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
3.-(1) With effect from the coming into operation of these regulations, after the words "occupational therapist," in regulation 3 of the National Assistance (Professions Supplementary to Medicine) Regulations 1964(1), there shall be inserted the word "orthoptist,".
(2) Paragraph (b) of regulation 3 and regulation 4 of the said Regulations shall not apply to the employment of any officer in the capacity of orthoptist.

These Regulations amend the National Assistance (Professions Supplementary to Medicine) Regulations 1964 so as to prohibit the employment of persons in the capacity of orthoptists for the purpose of providing services under Part III of the National Assistance Act 1948 unless they are registered with the Orthoptists Board under the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act 1960 (c.66).
