Whereas the Social Science Research Council is established by Royal Charter for purposes connected with scientific research and consists of persons appointed by a Minister of the Crown:
And whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament in pursuance of section 1(4) of the Science and Technology Act 1965 and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now therefore Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 1(1) of the said Act is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to declare, and it is hereby declared, as follows:-
1. The Social Science Research Council, whose objects are specified in the Schedule to this Order, is established as a Research Council for purposes of the Science and Technology Act 1965.
2. This Order may be cited as the Social Science Research Council Order 1965 and shall come into operation on the 1st December 1965.

(a) To encourage and support by any means research in the social sciences by any other person or body.
(b) Without prejudice to the foregoing paragraph, to provide and operate services for common use in carrying on such research.
(c) To carry out research in the social sciences.
(d) To make grants to students for post graduate instruction in the social sciences.
(e) To provide advice and to disseminate knowledge concerning the social sciences.
This Order declares the Social Science Research Council to be established as a Research Council for the purposes of the Science and Technology Act 1965 and specifies the objects of the Council.
