Parsonages (Amendment) Measure 1947

A Measure passed by the National Assembly of the Church of England.
To amend the Parsonages Measure, 1938, and for purposes connected therewith.

1. Power for
[ the Church Commissioners ] to purchase parsonage houses.
[ The Church Commissioners ] may purchase any property proposed to be sold under the provisions of the
Parsonages Measure 1938 (in this Measure referred to as
“ the principal Measure ” ) if the Bishop and
[ Board appointed or designated under section 1 of the Repair of Benefice Buildings Measure 1972 ] are satisfied that the price offered is reasonably satisfactory, and no objection on that ground is made within the prescribed period by the
[ registered ] patron or the parochial church council.
[ In this section “ registered patron ” has the same meaning as in the Patronage ( Benefices ) Measure 1986. ] 2. Power of postponing certain loan payments.
[ The Church Commissioners ] shall have power to postpone, in whole or in part, the repayment of moneys advanced by them under the
Clergy Residences Repair Act 1776, as amended by any subsequent Acts or Measures, the payment of interest thereon, or both such repayment and payment, for such periods and on such conditions as they may from time to time determine; and this power may be exercised at the time when the loan is made or at any time or times during the currency thereof.
3. Extension of section five of the Parsonages Measure, 1938.
— (1) Section five of the principal Measure shall have effect as if afterparagraph (iv) of subsection (1) thereof there were inserted thefollowing paragraphs :
— " iv ( a )
In repaying to an incumbant or incumbants such amounts as he or theymay have paid to Queen Anne ’ s Bounty in reduction of a loan made bythem for or towards the erection or purchase of a residence house ;
iv ( b )
In repaying to Queen Anne ’ s Bounty the whole or any part of any grantmade by them for or towards the erection or purchase of a residencehouse. "
(2) Subsection (2) of the said section shall have effect as if the words " or interest " were inserted immediatly after the words “ principal money ” in both places where those words occur. 4. Short title and construction.
This Measure may be cited as the Parsonages (Amendment) Measure 1947, and shall be construed as one with the principal Measure, and the two Measures may be cited together as the Parsonages Measures 1938 and 1947.
