Summary
The application was directed to showing that gravity did not exist and could be explained in terms of electromagnetic forces which could be manipulated for various purposes. The hearing officer held that there was insufficient description of a practical application to satisfy section 14(3) and that the invention was therefore excluded under section 1(2)(a) as relating to a theory or discovery as such. Although a suggestion had been made in correspondence prior to examination that the invention might not be capable of industrial action as required by section 1(1)(c) because it operated in a manner contrary to well-established physical laws, the hearing officer made no finding on this ground.
