Cabinet Office
The complainant has requested copies of correspondence between the former Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) and the former leader of the House of Commons, Margaret Beckett, on the topic of the Prince’s consent for the bill for House of Lords Act 1999. The Cabinet Office initially stated that the requested information was exempt under section 22 (information intended for future publication) of FOIA, and that it needed further time to consider the balance of the public interest in maintaining the exemption, however later amended its position and stated that it did not hold information within scope of the request. The Commissioner’s decision is that, on the balance of probabilities, the Cabinet Office does not hold information within scope of the request. The Commissioner does not require further steps.
