19 June 2014, Police and criminal justice
The complainant requested all IP addresses used by Cheshire Constabulary to access the internet. The Constabulary refused to disclose this information under the exemptions provided by the following sections of the FOIA: 24(1) (national security), 31(1)(a) (prejudice to the prevention or detection of crime), 31(1)(b) (prejudice to the apprehension or prosecution of offenders), 31(1)(c) (prejudice to the administration of justice). The Commissioner’s decision is that Cheshire Constabulary cited section 31(1)(a) correctly and so it was not required to disclose this information.
