This Order brings into force the Alcohol (Minimum Pricing) (Scotland) Act 2012 ("the Act"), so far as not already in force, on 1st May 2018 (see article 2).
The Act makes amendments to the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. The amendments introduce further mandatory conditions of premises licences granted under the 2005 Act. The condition is that alcohol must not be sold on these premises at a price below the minimum price. The Scottish Ministers are given a power by the new provisions to specify, by order, the minimum price per unit of alcohol and relevant labelling conditions in accordance with which bottles and other containers of alcohol must be labelled.
The Bill for the Act received Royal Assent on 29th June 2012. Sections 5 and 6 came into force on that day.
