The Scottish Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 11 and 16(2) of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004(1) and all other powers enabling them to do so.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004 (Remuneration) Amendment Regulations 2017 and come into force on 4th May 2017.
2.-(1) The Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004 (Remuneration) Regulations 2007(2) are amended as follows.
(2) For the table in regulation 6(2) (remuneration of the Leader of the Council) substitute-
Band A – £28,213;
Band B – £33,857;
Band C – £39,497;
Band D – £50,783.".
(3) For the table in regulation 7(2) (remuneration of the Civic Head) substitute-
Band A – £21,160;
Band B – £25,392;
Band C – £29,624;
Band D – £38,087.".
(4) In regulation 10 (councillors' remuneration) for "£16,893" substitute "£16,927".
(5) In regulation 12 (joint boards)-
(a)in paragraph (8) (payment to conveners) for "£21,118" substitute "£21,160"; and
(b)in paragraph (9) (payment to vice-conveners) for "of £20,063" substitute " £20,103".

These Regulations amend the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004 (Remuneration) Regulations 2007. They substitute increased annual amounts for different categories of local authority remuneration to their members. These changes are effective from 4th May 2017 being the date of the next ordinary election.
Regulation 2(2) makes provision for Council Leaders' remuneration.
Regulation 2(3) provides new maximum levels for remuneration of Civic Heads. It is for each local authority to determine whether and to what extent such remuneration should be paid.
Regulation 2(4) sets new levels for councillors' remuneration.
Regulation 2(5) sets new levels of remuneration for councillors who perform the role of convener or vice-convener of a joint board.
S.S.I. 2007/183; relevant amending instruments are S.S.I. 2008/415, S.S.I. 2015/7 and S.S.I. 2016/6.
