The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (2A) of section 2 of the Court of Session Act 1988[1], and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order, a draft of which has, in accordance with subsection (2D) of that section, been laid before, and approved by resolution of the Scottish Parliament: Citation and commencement 1. This Order may be cited as the Number of Inner House Judges (Variation) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 26th February 2001. Variation of number of Inner House judges 2. Section 2(2) of the Court of Session Act 1988 (composition of court) shall be amended by substituting for the word "three" in both places where it appears the word "four". JAMES R WALLACE A member of the Scottish Executive St Andrew's House, Edinburgh 15th February 2001 EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order) This Order amends section 2(2) of the Court of Session Act 1988 so as to increase the number of senior judges in each of the two Divisions of the Inner House of the Court of Session from three to four. The total number of judges in the Inner House, including the Lord President and the Lord Justice Clerk, will therefore be increased from eight to ten.
