The First Minister and deputy First Minister ("the Ministers") acting jointly make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 1(3) of the Inquiry into Historical Institutional Abuse Act (Northern Ireland) 2013 (1) ("the Act").
In accordance with that sub–section, the Ministers have consulted the chairperson of the Inquiry held under the Act.
1. This Order may be cited as the Inquiry into Historical Institutional Abuse (Amendment of Terms of Reference) Order (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 11th February 2015
2.-(1) The terms of reference of the inquiry (as set out in the Assembly Written Ministerial Statement of 18 October 2012(2)) are amended in accordance with paragraph (2).
(2) For "The Inquiry and Investigation will conclude within a 2 year 6 month period following the commencement of the legislation establishing its statutory powers." substitute "The Inquiry and Investigation will conclude within a 3 year 6 month period following the commencement of the legislation establishing its statutory powers.".

This Order amends the Terms of Reference of the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry 1922 to 1995.
Under The Terms of Reference of the Inquiry as set out in a statement to the Assembly made by the First Minister and deputy First Minister acting jointly on 18th October 2012, the Inquiry must conclude within a 2 year and 6 month period following the commencement of the Inquiry into Historical Abuse Act (Northern Ireland) 2013 on 19th January 2013. The amendment provides for the Inquiry now to conclude within 3 years and 6 months of that date.
