Road Traffic And Vehicle
The Department of the Environment, makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 55(1) and (2) and 110(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(1).
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 and shall come into operation on 1st May 2012.
2.-(1) In regulation 24(5) of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999(2) (maintenance and efficiency of brakes), after item 1 in Table I insert-
"1A | A vehicle included in item 1 of the table in regulation 20 or which complies with Community Directive 79/489, 85/647, 88/194, 91/422 or 98/12 or with ECE Regulation 13.03, 13.04, 13.05 or 13.06 which is first used on or after 1st January 2012- | |||
(a) when not drawing a trailer; | 58 | 25 | ||
(b) when drawing a trailer. | 45 | 25" |

These Regulations amend regulation 24(5) of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 in regards to the efficiency limit for brakes. This new limit is to apply to vehicles first used on or after 1st January 2012.
