1. This Order may be cited as the Supervision and Treatment Orders (Maximum Period) (Northern Ireland) Order 2011 and shall come into operation on 30th June 2011.
2.-(1) Schedule 2A to the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986 (supervision and treatment orders) is amended as follows.
(2) In paragraph 1(1)(a) for "2 years" substitute "3 years".
(3) In paragraph 8(2) for "2 years" substitute "3 years".

This Order amends paragraph 1(1)(a) of Schedule 2A to the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986 ("the 1986 Order") to increase, from 2 years to 3 years, the maximum period for supervision and treatment orders. It also makes a related amendment to paragraph 8(2) of Schedule 2A to the 1986 Order.
S.I. 1986/595 (N.I. 4). Schedule 2A was inserted by Article 51(4) of, and Schedule 4 to, the Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/3160 (N.I. 24)).
Article 4(1) of, and paragraph 11 of Schedule 1 to, the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Devolution of Policing and Justice Functions) Order 2010 (S.I. 2010/976) transferred functions of the Secretary of State under the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986 to the Department of Justice.
