Coming into operation

The Magistrates´ Courts Rules Committee makes the following Rules in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 13 of the Magistrates´ Courts (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1), after consultation with the Lord Chancellor and with the agreement of the Lord Chief Justice.
1. These Rules may be cited as the Magistrates´ Courts (Criminal Justice (Children)) (Amendment) Rules (Northern Ireland) 2009 and shall come into operation on 30th September 2009.
2. After Rule 18 of the Magistrates´ Courts (Criminal Justice (Children)) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1999(2) insert–
"18A. A summons to enforce the attendance of a parent or guardian in accordance with Article 15 of the Order may be served in the same manner as a summons to be served under Rule 12A of the Magistrates´ Courts Rules (Northern Ireland) 1984(3)."

These Rules amend the Magistrates´ Courts (Criminal Justice (Children)) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1999 [S.R.1999 No. 7] to provide that service of a summons to enforce the attendance of a parent or guardian under Article 15 of the Criminal Justice (Children) (Northern Ireland) Order 1998 may be effected by post.
