JUSTICE

The Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2004 (Commencement) Order 2004

  Made 23rd June 2004 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 19 of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2004[1], hereby makes the following Order:

     1. This Order may be cited as the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2004 (Commencement) Order 2004.

    
2.  - (1) The following provisions of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2004 shall come into operation on 14th July 2004.

    (2) The provisions referred to in paragraph (1) above are -

    Section 9 (the Juvenile Justice Board);

    Section 11 (bail under section 67 of the Terrorism Act 2000), together with Schedule 2 (bail under Terrorism Act 2000);

    Section 12 (bail to which Part II of the Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 2003 applies);

    Section 13 (transfer of prisoners);

    Section 14 (amendment of section 103 of the Terrorism Act 2000);

    Section 15 (arrest without warrant for offence of driving while disqualified);

    Section 17 (right of barrister to enter into contract for the provision of his services);

    Section 18 (repeals) to the extent necessary to bring into force the provisions of Schedule 4 (repeals) specified below; and

    in Schedule 4, the entry in respect of the Prisons Act (Northern Ireland) 1953[2], the entry in respect of the Malone and Whiteabbey Training Schools Act (Northern Ireland) 1956[3], the entry in respect of the Criminal Justice (Children) (Northern Ireland) Order 1998[4], in the entry in respect of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002[5], the repeal of the words "(other than the Juvenile Justice Board)" in section 46(1)(h), the entry in respect of the Commissioner for Children and Young People (Northern Ireland) Order 2003[6] and the entry in respect of the Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 2003[7].

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order brings into force on 14th July 2004 the provisions of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2004 set out in article 2.
