Provision of railway services. 55.(1) Subject to the provisions of this Act it shall be the duty of the subsidiary of the Holding Company incorporated under the name of the Northern Ireland Railways Company Limited (being an authorised railway undertaking and in this Act referred to as the "railway undertaking") to provide, or secure the provision of, railway services in Northern Ireland with due regard to efficiency, economy and safety of operation. (2) References in this Act to "railway services" shall be construed as including services provided for the carriage of passengers and goods by rail and such other services and facilities as appear to the railway undertaking requisite or expedient to provide in connection therewith.
