1.(1) There shall be established a body to be known as the Northern Ireland Council for Nurses and Midwives (in this Act referred to as "the Council"). (2) The Council shall be a body corporate with perpetual succession to which section 19 of the Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 shall apply. (3) The Council shall have such functions as are conferred on it by virtue of this Act. (4) The constitution of the Council shall be as provided in that behalf in Part I of Schedule 1, and the supplementary provisions contained in Part II of that Schedule shall have effect with respect to the Council. (5) The Ministry may by order made subject to affirmative resolution amend any provision of Schedule 1, so however that any amendment made under this subsection shall have regard to the principles that (a)the Council shall be representative of the interests affected; and (b)the number of elected members shall exceed the number of appointed members.
