Landlord may give notice to sub-tenant to pay rent to him. 20. Where any tenant subletting shall neglect to pay to his landlord the rent payable in respect of the lands comprised in the lease, it shall be lawful for the landlord, or his agent lawfully acting in that behalf, after and as often as one gale of such rent shall have accrued due and remained unpaid for the space of one month, to give notice in writing to the sub-tenant, requiring him to pay to the landlord so much of the rent payable by such sub-tenant to the tenant under whom he holds as may be sufficient to discharge the gale or gales stated in such notice to be due from the tenant to the landlord, such notice to be delivered to the sub-tenant, or left at his usual place of abode with some member of his family above the age of sixteen years; and thereupon such sub-tenant shall be liable to pay to the landlord all rent that may accrue due after the receipt of such notice, or so much thereof as may be sufficient to discharge such gale or gales; and the receipt of the landlord or his agent shall be a full discharge to the sub-tenant against the tenant in respect of all rent so paid; and the said landlord and his representatives shall be entitled to all such rights and remedies for the enforcing payment of such rent as the said tenant so subletting might have had.
