Imposition of fines on defaulting jurors. 14.(1) Any fine which may be imposed under section forty ... of the Act of 1871,..., in respect of non-attendance or other default on the part of a person summoned to attend on a jury, ... or inquiry, shall be so imposed if the juror at any time when called does not answer to his name, unless some reasonable excuse for his non-attendance is proved to the satisfaction of the court or other authority having power to impose such fine; and so much of the said enactments as renders it necessary for any such person to be called three times is hereby repealed.
