Power to sell and let lands. 6. The Commissioners of Public Works may from time to time, under the direction of the Treasury, sell, exchange, demise, or in any manner dispose of any lands or hereditaments vested in or acquired by them under the provisions of this Act; and, in the case of sales or exchanges of lands or hereditaments held for the use and service of the Customs, the two hundred and seventy-fifth section of the Customs Consolidation Act, 1876, shall apply to such sales or exchanges, with this modification, that the moneys therein referred to shall be paid to the Commissioners of Public Works instead of to the Commissioners of Customs and that the receipt of the Commissioners of Public Works (endorsed on the conveyance, surrender, or assignment), shall effectually discharge the purchaser or person by whom or on whose account the same shall be paid.
