1. The claimant made claims for age discrimination and for unfair dismissal. The case was listed for two days. The claimant did not appear at all on the first day and gave no explanation. On the second day Mr Corrigan made an application for an adjournment in the absence of the claimant. The tribunal refused the application for adjournment for reasons given orally at the hearing. The tribunal determined to proceed on the basis of the information before it. The tribunal dismissed the claimant’s claims for reasons given orally at the hearing. Mr Collins made an application for costs on behalf of the respondent. The tribunal made an award of £250.00 costs payable by the claimant to the respondent. Again, reasons were given orally at the hearing.
2. This is a relevant decision for the purposes of the Industrial Tribunals (Interest) Order (Northern Ireland) 1990.
