DECISION
I hereby declare that the claimant is entitled to a redundancy payment in the sum of £1,080.00.
The respondent is also ordered to pay damages to the claimant for breach of contract for failure to give notice or to make a payment in lieu of notice in the sum of £393.74.

Reasons
The claimant was dismissed by the respondent on 21 April 2005 when the respondent company ceased trading. He was given one week's pay in lieu of notice and was not given any payment in respect of his redundancy.
The claimant was employed from 14 February 2002 to 21 April 2005. He was aged 56 at the date of his dismissal.
The amounts awarded are computed as follows:
Redundancy pay
£240.00 x 4½ weeks = £1,080.00
Pay in lieu of notice
The claimant was entitled to two weeks' pay in lieu of notice
£196.87 x 2 = £393.74
This is a relevant decision for the purposes of the Industrial Tribunals (Interest) Order (Northern Ireland) 1990.
