THE INDUSTRIAL TRIBUNALS

DECISION
The unanimous decision of the tribunal is that the applicant was dismissed by reason of redundancy and that the respondent shall pay to the applicant £720 for redundancy.

The applicant represented himself.
The respondent did not enter a Notice of Appearance and was not represented.
- The reasons are given in summary form.
- The applicant contended that he was entitled to a redundancy payment having been dismissed by the respondent with effect from 19 October 2001. The respondent did not enter an appearance and chose not to defend the application before the tribunal.
- The tribunal heard evidence from the applicant and having considered the relevant provisions of the Employment Rights (NI) Order found as follows:-
(i) The applicant was dismissed by reason of redundancy on 19 October 2001. The applicant approached the respondent on several occasion and was led to believe that he would receive a redundancy payment.
(ii) The applicant was employed by the respondent from January 1998 to 19 October 2001 and his gross salary was £370 per week.
- The tribunal, having regard to the applicant's evidence and to documentation furnished by him, orders the respondent to pay redundancy to the applicant as follows:-
3 weeks x £240 = £720
This is a relevant decision for the purposes of the Industrial Tribunals (Interest) Order (Northern Ireland) 1990.
