Bord na gCon in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 13 of the Greyhound Industry Act 1958 (No. 12 of 1958), as amended by Section 9 of the Horse and Greyhound Racing (Betting Charges and Levies) Act 1999 (No. 24 of 1999), and also by sub-section (3) of Section 5 of the said 1958 Act, hereby makes the following regulations, that is to say— | ||
1. These regulations may be cited as the Greyhound Industry (Control Committee and Control Appeal Committee) (Provisional Extension of Term of Office) Regulations, 2020. | ||
2. The Greyhound Industry (Control Committee and Control Appeal Committee) Regulations, 2007 to 2019 and these Regulations may be cited together as the Greyhound Industry (Control Committee and Control Appeal Committee) Regulations, 2007 to 2020. | ||
3. In these Regulations, - | ||
“the Regulations of 2016” means the Greyhound Industry (Control Committee and Control Appeal Committee) (Provisional Extension of Term of Office) Regulations, 2016 (S.I. No. 491 of 2016), and | ||
“the Regulations of 2019” means the Greyhound Industry (Control Committee and Control Appeal Committee) (Provisional Extension of Term of Office) Regulations, 2019 (S.I. No. 429 of 2019). | ||
4. Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 5(1) (v) of the Greyhound Industry (Control Committee and Control Appeal Committee) Regulations 2007 (S.I. No. 301 of 2007), the term of office of the members of the Control Committee who were last appointed to the Control Committee on the 29th day of August, 2013, and whose term of office was extended to seven years by the Regulations of 2019, is hereby further extended from seven years to eight years. | ||
5. Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 11(1) (v) of the Greyhound Industry (Control Committee and Control Appeal Committee) Regulations 2007, the term of office of the members of the Control Appeal Committee who were last appointed to the Control Appeal Committee on the 3rd day of October, 2013, and whose term of office was extended to seven years by the Regulations of 2019, is hereby further extended from seven years to eight years. | ||
6. Where any member of the Control Committee or the Control Appeal Committee dies, retires or otherwise ceases to be a member of such Committee, or where any member has indicated that they are not available to serve on the Committee beyond the seven years provided for by the Regulations of 2019, the Board may appoint a person to such Committee to take the place of that member for the duration of the term of office set out in these regulations. | ||
7. A member of the Control Committee appointed to such Committee in accordance with Regulation 5 of the Regulations of 2016 shall, for the purposes of these Regulations, be deemed to have been appointed to such Committee on the 29th day of August, 2013. | ||
8. These regulations shall come into effect on the 28th day of August 2020. | ||

The effect of these regulations is, pending the consideration of primary legislation establishing a new Control Committee and Appeal Committee, to extend the term of office of members of the current Control Committee and the Control Appeal Committee for a further year. |
