Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, MICHAEL CREED, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive 90/675/EEC¹ of 10 December 1990 and Council Directive 91/496/EEC² of 15 July 1991, hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Importation of Animals and Animal Products from Third Countries) (Amendment) Regulations 2016.

2. The European Communities (Importation of Animals and Animal Products from Third Countries) Regulations 1994 (S.I. 255 of 1994) are amended by the insertion, after Regulation 6, of—

“7.(1) An authorised officer may require the production of the original certificate relating to an animal or animal product to which these Regulations relate and may take up and retain the certificate.”.

This Regulation gives effect to Council Directive 91/496/EEC, in relation to the retention of original certificates.
