I, SÉAMUS BRENNAN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 54(2) of the Transport (Railway Infrastructure) Act 2001 (No. 55 of 2001) (as adapted by the Public Enterprise (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 305 of 2002 )), having given notice under subsection (3) of that section to Dublin City Council, South Dublin County Council and the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána, hereby make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Light Railway (Speed Limits -- Luas Line A) Regulations 2004. 2. The speed limits for a light rail vehicle are-- |

(a) 50 kilometres per hour, on each of the public roads or part thereof specified in Schedule 1, and |
||||||
(b) 70 kilometres per hour, on each of the public roads or part thereof specified in Schedule 2, |
||||||
to these Regulations. |

Regulation 2(a) |
Public roads for which a speed limit of 50 k.p.h. applies |

The following roads in the city of Dublin: |
||||||
(a) Middle Abbey Street for a distance of 36 metres west of the centreline of its junction with O'Connell Street to the centreline of the junction of Middle Abbey Street and Lower Liffey Street, |
||||||
(b) Upper Abbey Street from the centreline of its junction with Lower Liffey Street to the centreline of its junction with Capel Street, |
||||||
(c) Mary's Abbey from the centreline of its junction with Capel Street to the centreline of its junction with Arran Street East, |
||||||
(d) Chancery Street from the centreline of its junction with Arran Street East to a point 6 metres west of the centreline of its junction with Ormond Square, |
||||||
(e) Benburb Street from a point 27 metres west of the centreline of its junction with Queen Street to a point 81 metres east of the centreline of its junction with Temple Street West, |
||||||
(f) Steeven's Lane from a point 54 metres south of the centreline of its junction with St. John's Road West to the centreline of its junction with Bow Lane West, |
||||||
(g) James's Street from the centreline of its junction with Bow Lane West to a point 69 metres west of the centreline of its junction with Basin Street Lower, |
||||||
(h) Naas Road from a point 48 metres south of the centreline of its junction with Davitt Road to a point 70 metres east of the centreline of its junction with Muirfield Drive, and |
||||||
(i) Naas Road from a point 20 metres east of the centreline of its junction with Muirfield Drive to a point 20 metres west of the centreline of its junction with the entrance to Carriglea Industrial Estate. |

Public roads for which a speed limit of 70 k.p.h. applies |

1. The following roads in the city of Dublin: |
||||||
(a) Davitt Road from a point 99 metres west of the centreline of its junction with Suir Road to a point 110 metres east of the centreline of its junction with the Naas Road, and |
||||||
(b) Naas Road from a point 20 metres west of the centreline of its junction with the entrance to Carriglea Industrial Estate to its junction with Robinhood Road. |
||||||
2. The following roads in the county of South Dublin: |
||||||
(a) Naas Road from its junction with Robinhood Road to a point 82 metres east of the centreline of its junction with Turnpike Road, |
||||||
(b) Embankment Road from a point 481 metres east of the centreline of its junction with Sylvan Drive to a point 75 metres east of the centreline of its junction with Belgard Road, and |
||||||
(c) Cookstown Way from a point 103 metres south of the centreline of its junction with Second Avenue to a point 230 metres south of the centreline of its junction with Maplewood Road. |

The normal speed limit for light rail vehicles on public roads is either 30 miles (48 kilometres) per hour or 40 miles (64 kilometres) per hour, as specified under Road Traffic legislation. These regulations set speed limits for Light Rail Vehicles where it is considered appropriate that these should differ from speed limits set for other road traffic. These speed limits are set at 50 and 70 kilometres per hour. |
