SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1997 (SECTION 24) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1997

SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1997 (SECTION 24) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1997

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 27 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (No. 10 of 1997), hereby orders as follows:

Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (Section 24) (Commencement) Order, 1997.

Commencement

2. Section 24 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 shall come into operation on the 10th day of April, 1997.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Section 24 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 provides that a person who ceases to be entitled to the One Parent Family Payment by virtue of no longer being a qualified parent or ceases to be entitled to Carer's Allowance by virtue of no longer being a carer may qualify for Pre-Retirement Allowance without first having to have been in receipt of unemployment payments for 15 months.

This Order brings these provisions into effect on the 10th day of April, 1997.
