SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1997 (SECTION 32) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1997.

SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1997 (SECTION 32) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1997.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 32 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (No. 10 of 1997), hereby orders as follows:

Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (Section 32) (Commencement) Order, 1997.

Commencement

2. Section 32 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 shall come into operation on the 8th day of April, 1997.

Section 32 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 incorporates into primary legislation existing regulatory provisions governing the payment of late claims for the various social welfare payments. It also extends from 6 to 12 months, the period in respect of which arrears of Old Age (Contributory) Pension, Widow's and Widower's (Contributory) Pension and Orphan's (Contributory) Allowance may be paid and for payment of arrears of up to 6 months in the case of late claims for Family Income Supplement.

This Order brings these provisions into effect on the 8 April, 1997.
