I, TOM FITZPATRICK, Minister of State at the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2 , 3 and 6 of the Post Office (Amendment) Act, 1969 (No. 18 of 1969), and the Posts and Telegraphs (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1978 ( S.I. No. 3 of 1978 ), and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Warrant may be cited as the Inland Post Amendment (No. 23) Warrant, 1979.
|
|
|
(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1979.
|
|
|
2. In this Warrant "the Principal Warrant" means the Inland Post Warrant, 1939 (S. R. & O., No. 202 of 1939);
|
|
|
3. Regulation 23 (2) of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for "thirty-four new pence" (inserted by Regulation 3 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 21 Warrant, 1977 ( S.I. No. 48 of 1977 )) of "forty new pence".
|
|
|
4. The First Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 22) Warrant, 1977 ( S.I. No. 212 of 1977 )) of the entries in the First Schedule to this Warrant.

|
|
5. The Second Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 6 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 19) Warrant, 1974 ( S.I. No. 280 of 1974 )) of the entries in the Second Schedule to this Warrant.

|
|
6. The Third Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 5 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 22) Warrant, 1977) of the entries in the Third Schedule to this Warrant.
|
|
|
7. The Fourth Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 6 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 21) Warrant, 1977) of the entries in the Fourth Schedule to this Warrant.
|
|
|
8. The Fifth Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 7 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 21) Warrant, 1977) of the entries in the Fifth Schedule to this warrant.
|
|
|
9. Regulation 7 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 4) Warrant, 1953 ( S.I. No. 279 of 1953 ), as amended by Regulation 8 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 21) Warrant of 1977) is hereby amended by the substitution for "twenty-eight new pence" of "thirty-three new pence".

10. Regulation 45 of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for "five pounds" (inserted by Regulation 6 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 14) Warrant, 1968 ( S.I. No. 262 of 1968 )) of "ten pounds".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.
|
|
|
This Warrant applies to the Inland Post service and comes into operation on the 1st August, 1979. It authorises increases in the letter, postcard, printed packet, newspaper, sample packet and parcel post rates of postage and in the fees charged for the express delivery, registration, customs clearance and cash-on-delivery services. It also authorises increases in the maximum compensation in respect of registered letters and parcels and unregistered parcels.
