TELEGRAPH (INLAND WRITTEN TELEGRAM) AMENDMENT (No. 14) WARRANT, 1974.

|
I, CONOR CRUISE-O'BRIEN, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the Regulations contained in the following Warrant:--
|

|
1. (1) This Warrant may be cited as the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 14) Warrant, 1974.
|
|
|
(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1975.
|
|
|
2. In this Warrant--
|
|
|
"the 1920 Regulations" means the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Regulations, 1920;
|
|
|
"the 1933 Warrant" means the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 2) Warrant, 1933 (S.R. and O., No. 15 of 1934).
|
|
|
3. (1) The 1920 Regulations are hereby amended by--
|
|
|
( a ) the substitution in Regulation 5 (2) of "sixteen hundred metres" for "one mile" (inserted by Regulation 2 of the 1933 Warrant) in each place where those words occur;
|
|
|
( b ) the substitution of the following for paragraph (1) of Regulation 7:
|
|
|
"7--(1) Subject to the provisions of these Regulations there shall be charged and paid for the delivery of a Telegram by a special messenger at an address beyond the limits of free delivery the sum of 5p for any distance less than sixteen hundred metres, or for each sixteen hundred metres or part of sixteen hundred metres over and above any complete multiple of sixteen hundred metres, from the boundary of the free delivery area".

(2) In accordance with paragraph (1) of this Regulation, Regulation 5 (2) of the 1920 Regulations shall have effect as set out in the Table to this Warrant.

|
(2) Subject to the provisions of these Regulations, the limits of free delivery shall be sixteen hundred metres from the Terminal Telegraph Office, or, if the Terminal Telegraph Office is a Head Post Office, and the town postal delivery of letters from such office extends beyond sixteen hundred metres, then the limits of such postal delivery.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.
|
|
|
The foregoing Instrument provides for the metrication of the distance on which the internal porterage charge is based as from 1st January, 1975.
