EXPLOSIVES (AMMONIUM NITRATE AND SODIUM CHLORATE) ORDER, 1972. |

WHEREAS the substances specified in the Schedule to this Order appear to the Government to be specially dangerous to life and property by reason of their explosive properties: |
||
NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 104 of the Explosives Act, 1875, hereby order as follows: |
||
1. This Order may be cited as the Explosives (Ammonium Nitrate and Sodium Chlorate) Order, 1972. |
||
2. This Order shall come into operation on the 10th day of August, 1972. |
||
3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order. |
||
4. It is hereby declared that the substances specified in the Schedule to this Order shall be deemed to be explosives within the meaning of the Explosives Act, 1875. |

SCHEDULE. |
||
1. Ammonium nitrate. |
||
2. Any mixture, including a fertiliser, which contains ammonium nitrate and in which any part of the nitrate fraction having a chemically determined ammonium equivalent constitutes, together with that equivalent, more than 79 per cent, by weight of the said mixture. |
||
3. Any mixture of the kind specified in paragraph 2 of this Schedule in which the content of combustible material is greater than 0·4 percent by weight. |
||
4. Sodium chlorate. |
||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
This Order declares sodium chlorate, ammonium nitrate and substances containing a high proportion of ammonium nitrate to be explosives within the meaning of the Explosives Act, 1875, thus rendering these substances subject to the controls operated under that Act. |
||
