S.I. No. 204/1971:

COINAGE (CALLING IN) ORDER, 1971.

COINAGE (CALLING IN) ORDER, 1971.

I, SEOIRSE Ó COLLA, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 12 of the Decimal Currency Act, 1969 (No. 23 of 1969), hereby make the following order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Coinage (Calling In) Order, 1971.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1972.

3. Coins of the denominations of penny, threepence and sixpence are hereby called in.

GIVEN under my Official Seal this 29th day of June 1971.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is that pennies, threepences and sixpences shall cease to be legal tender on and from 1 January 1972 and may not circulate or be used as currency on and from that date.
