Data Protection Commission The role of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner is to protect the individual's right to privacy by enabling people to know and to exercise control over how their personal information is used, in accordance with the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003. The Office maintains a body of case studies to provide guidance and indicate the likely position of the Office when an issue of the type described in the case study arises.

The case studies are selected for publication each year in the Annual Report of the Commissioner according to their broader relevance to data controllers and data subjects seeking to understand their responsibilities and their rights
