Application no.
26252/08
by Susan V RICHARDSON
against the United
Kingdom
lodged on 29 May 2008
STATEMENT OF FACTS
THE FACTS
The applicant, Ms Susan V Richardson, is a British national who was born in 1955 and lives in Huntingdon.
A. The circumstances of the case
The facts of the case, as submitted by the applicant, may be summarised as follows.
In a pension forecast dated 4 November 2008, the applicant was informed that the age at which women would become eligible for a State pension had been increased from 60 to 65, the same age at which a man born in 1955 would become eligible for a pension.
The applicant contends that the raising of the pension eligibility age will cause her financial hardship, as she had budgeted to retire at 60.
COMPLAINTS
The applicant complains under Articles 14 and 17 of the Convention that she has been discriminated against because of her age and sex and that, despite working hard and paying taxes all her life, she now risks living in poverty when she retires.
