      WATER SUPPLY

      The Water Industry Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1) (Scotland) Order 1999

        Made 26th October 1999 

      The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 17(3) of the Water Industry Act 1999[1] and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:

      Citation and extent
           1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Water Industry Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1) (Scotland) Order 1999.

          (2) This Order extends to Scotland only.

      Appointed Day
          
      2. 1st November 1999 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Water Industry Act 1999:-

        (a) Part II;

        (b) section 15(1), so far as it relates to Part II of Schedule 3;

        (c) section 15(2), so far as it relates to Part II of Schedule 4;

        (d) Schedule 2;

        (e) Part II of Schedule 3; and

        (f) Part II of Schedule 4.

      EXPLANATORY NOTE

      (This note is not part of the Order)

      This Order provides for the commencement, on 1st November 1999, of the Water Industry Act 1999 so far as it applies to Scotland.

      This Act establishes a Water Industry Commissioner for Scotland who has the general function of promoting the interests of customers of water and sewerage authorities.

      The Commissioner replaces the Scottish Water and Sewerage Customer Council established under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994.
