POLICE ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1970 - SECT 20

Aid by the RUC to other UK police forces.

20.(1) The Inspector General may, on the application of the chief officer of
another United Kingdom police force, provide members of the Royal Ulster
Constabulary or other assistance for the purpose of enabling the
first-mentioned force to meet a special demand on its resources.

(2) The Minister, if satisfied.... that it is expedient in the interests of
public safety or order that another United Kingdom police force should be
reinforced or should receive other assistance for the purpose of enabling it
to meet a special demand on its resources and that satisfactory arrangements
under the foregoing subsection cannot be made or cannot be made in time, may,
at his request, direct the Inspector General to provide such members of the
Royal Ulster Constabulary or other assistance for that purpose as may be
specified in the direction.

(3) A member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary shall, during any period during
which he is provided under this section for the assistance of
another United Kingdom police force be under the like direction and control as
a member of that force notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in
this Act or in section 1 or 7 of the Constabulary Act (Northern Ireland) 1922
or in the enactments applied by those provisions respecting the government,
direction and superintendence of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
