PAWNBROKERS ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1954 - SECT 35

Provisions relating to detention of persons by pawnbrokers.

35.(1) It shall be a defence to any proceedings, whether civil or criminal,
against a pawnbroker, or the servant or agent of a pawnbroker, in respect of
anything done by him in the course of detaining, or attempting to detain, any
person in accordance with any requirement of this Act to prove that anything
so done was done upon resonable grounds and in the bona fide belief that such
detention was necessary under this Act.

(2) Any person detained by a pawnbroker, or the servant or agent of a
pawnbroker, in compliance with any provision of this Act who escapes or
attempts to escape from such detention shall be guilty of an offence against
this Act.
