The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[
1] and now vested in him[
2], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf: -
1.
This Order may be cited as the A41 London to Birkenhead Trunk Road (Buckinghamshire) (Detrunking) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 1st April 2004.

In this Order -
(i) "principal road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and
(ii) "the trunk road" means the A41 London to Birkenhead Trunk Road (A41)
3.
The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road for which Buckinghamshire County Council shall become highway authority from the date this Order comes into force.

THE SCHEDULE
Length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road
The length of trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated in Buckinghamshire between the centre point of its junction with the access road to Weston Mead Farm (west of Aston Clinton) and the boundary with Hertfordshire, including:
the A41 Woodlands roundabout, west of Aston Clinton;
the merging and demerging lanes with side roads at the College Road interchange;
the eastbound off slip and the westbound on slip road at the partial junction with the B489 Lower Icknield Road, north east of Aston Clinton;
parts of the eastbound off slip road and the westbound on slip road leading to and from the Tring Hill Interchange, south west of Tring, up to the boundary with Hertfordshire;
all, if any, parallel lay-bys and cycle tracks.
and is shown by broad black dashes on the site plans 1 to 3 comprised in plan folio numbered HA 10/TD/002 and marked "The A41 London to Birkenhead Trunk Road (Buckinghamshire) (Detrunking) Order 2003" signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at DfT Records Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA.
