1. This Order may be cited as the Greater London Authority (Assembly Constituencies and Returning Officers) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 22nd December 1999.
2. For the purposes of Part I (the Greater London Authority) of the Greater London Authority Act 1999-
(a)the Assembly constituencies shall be the areas, and shall be known by the names, specified in columns (1) and (2), respectively, in the following Table; and
(b)as regards each such constituency, the person who is for the time being the returning officer in relation to other local government elections(3) in the borough specified in relation to that constituency in column (3) of the Table shall also be the returning officer at any election in that constituency of a constituency member of the London Assembly:

Article 2(1) of this Order provides for the names and areas of the 14 Assembly constituencies for the purposes of the election of the constituency members of the London Assembly, as specified in columns (1) and (2) of the Table. (The other 11 members of the London Assembly are to be members for the whole of Greater London. The London Assembly and the Mayor of London together constitute the Greater London Authority.)
Article 2(2) provides that the returning officers at elections of constituency members of the London Assembly shall be the persons who are for the time being the returning officers at other local government elections in the boroughs listed in column (3) of the Table.
1999 c. 29, The Order gives effect (without modification) to recommendations contained in a report submitted by the Local Government Commission under section 7 of the Greater London Authority (Referendum) Act 1998 (c. 3) (report of recommendations about electoral areas etc.).
Section 35(2B) is inserted by the Greater London Authority Act 1999, Schedule 3, paragraph 3.
