(This note is not part of the Order)
Section 84(1) of the Criminal Justice Act 1991 provides that the Secretary of State may enter into a contract with another person for the running by him of any prison which is established after the commencement of section 84 and is for the confinement of remand prisoners. Section 84 was brought into force by virtue of S.I. 1991/2208. This Order amends section 84(1) so as to enable the Secretary of State to enter into such a contract for the running of any prison established after that date.
