The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 86(2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 134(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:-
1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Variation of Speed Limits) Regulations 1986.
(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the fifteenth day following the day on which they are approved by resolution of each House of Parliament.
2. The provisions of Schedule 6 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 are hereby varied as follows:-
(1) in Part I:-
(a)in item 3, for the figure "50" in columns 3(a) and (b) (respectively the speed limit on a motorway and on a dual carriageway road not being a motorway) there shall be substituted the figure "60";
(b)in item 5(2)(a), for the figure "50" in column 3(b) (the speed limit on a dual carriageway road not being a motorway) there shall be substituted the figure "60";
(c)the following item shall be added in the Table:-
"9. | An agricultural motor vehicle | 40 40 40"; |
(2) in Part IV, in paragraph 2, before "articulated vehicle" there shall be inserted ""agricultural motor vehicle"".

These Regulations amend Schedule 6 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 with the result that:-
(a) the speed limit for passenger vehicles, motor caravans, car-derived vans or dual purpose vehicles which are drawing one trailer is increased from 50 to 60 miles per hour on a motorway or a dual carriageway;
(b) the speed limit for certain light goods vehicles is increased from 50 to 60 miles per hour on a dual carriageway;
(c) a speed limit of 40 miles per hour is introduced for agricultural motor vehicles on all roads.
