The Secretary of State for Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 13(4) of the Social Security Act 1975 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after reference to the National Insurance Advisory Committee, hereby makes the following regulations:-
1. These regulations, which may be cited as the Social Security (Benefit) (Married Women and Widows Special Provisions) Amendment Regulations 1977 shall be read as one with the Social Security (Benefit) (Married Women and Widows Special Provisions) Regulations 1974(1) as amended(2) (hereinafter referred to as the principal regulations) and shall come into operation on 30th September 1977.
2. In regulation 6(1) of the principal regulations after the words "of this regulation" there shall be inserted the words "and which falls before 6th April 1978.".

These Regulations, which amend regulation 6 of the Social Security (Benefit) (Married Women and Widows Special Provisions) Regulations 1974 make provision for removing the right of a woman who is or has been a widow to be credited with Class 3 contributions under that regulation in respect of any year after that ending with 5th April 1978.
The report of the National Insurance Advisory Committee on the preliminary draft of these regulations, dated 27th August 1977, is contained in Command Paper (Cmnd. 6929) published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office.
